An evening of sitar and vocal recitals

On 24th June 2012, Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan (UMAK) Center for Culture celebrated the 101st birth anniversary of the maestro by arranging an evening of music performed by two great artists at Uttam Mancha, Calcutta.

The first performer was a sitar recital by Sri Debu Chaudhari, a direct disciple of Mushtaq Ali Khan, who was accompanied on the tabla by Sri Kumar Bose. Entirely suitable to the rainy evening outside the auditorium, he played a rendition of raag Mian Ki Malhar.

The next performance was a vocal recital by Sri Ulhas Kashalkar, accompanied by Sri Suresh Talwalkar on tabla. Vocal support was by Sri Omkar Dadarkar and Ulhasji‘s son Sri Sameehan Kashalkar. Ulhasji tuned in to raag Shuddh Kalyan and later ended the program with a superb performance on raag Bahar and raag Sohini.

This program also saw our old friend Purba rejoining us for the first time after the Dover Lane program on January 2012.
