Organized by Sangeet Ashram, the evening of 30th September saw Smt Padma Talwalkar presenting a vocal recital at the G D Birla Sabhagar. The surprise element of the show was Padmaji’s daughter Savani Talwalkar, who accompanied her mother on tabla.
Padmaji opened her performance with raag Yaman in ektaal and later in drut teentaal. Her next piece was on raag Kafi Kanada in teentaal. Then after a thumri in Khamaj, she concluded the show with a Marathi Natyasangeet based on raag Bhairavi.
Savani, well trained by her father and famous tabla exponent Sri Suresh Talwalkar, sounded similar to her father in the rhythmic elements during her performance. Never perturbed and rarely flamboyant, she was a perfect match for her mother’s presentations in her controlled, restrained sangat. We hope she will be dedicated in pursuance of this art and wish her all the success for her future.
Apart from her daughter Savani, Padmaji was accompanied by Smt Rasika Garud on voice and taanpura, by Smt Pratibha Das on taanpura and our own Smt Rupashree Bhattacharyya on Harmonium.
